WELCOME!
My husband and I were both born in Los Angeles and moved
to Long Beach in 1976. We joined Our Lady of Refuge Parish as active
members in 1981.
Our son Randy attended Our Lady of Refuge Parish School for nine years,
Kindergarten through Eighth Grade. He received both First Communion and
Confirmation at OLR.
While Randy was in school, I was a classroom aide for his first three
years, working with Rosie DeSiato, Marilyn North, and Mary Ellen Faubert.
My husband called Bingo for eight years. The Parents' Committee scheduled
many worthwhile programs for parent education in the evenings. My husband
Chuck and I met many friends through participation in the excellent school
fund raisers and dances.
I taught middle school students in the Religious Education Program for
three years; also trained and scheduled the Sunday altar servers for six
years. Randy participated as a server for seven years. He joined the
scouting program, beginning with Tiger Cubs and continuing into Boys
Scouts with the same group of young men.
My husband, Chuck, coordinated and scheduled the Special Ministers
of Communion at OLR since 1988. My son Randy and I served as Special
Ministers; I regularly serve as a Mass Coordinator at 11:30 Sunday Mass.
I have very much enjoyed being active participants in Our Lady of
Refuge Parish. We encourage you to become active in any of the many
programs available in the parish. We would welcome the opportunity to
answer any inquiries about OLR that you may have.
