The Story of Mother’s Day

History of a celebration in honor of mothers goes back to ancient Greece.  16th Century England celebrated Mothering Sunday. The celebration of this day in the United States was first suggested in 1872 by Julia Ward Howe, who wrote the words to the Battle Hymn of the Republic.

She was canonized in 2004.)
