California National Historic Trail

The California National Historic Trail traces the route taken by over 250,000 gold-seekers and farmers in the 1840’s and 1850’s.  National Park Service provides maps, photos, guide & site descriptions for visiting areas of historical significance. 

 

Free Tour of Long Beach Harbor

Long Beach is the second busiest port in the United States and the 12th busiest cargo port in the world.  Take a free tour of the harbor to see modern history of our community in action.  The Port of Long Beach hosts a one and half hour narrated tour twice a month, from May through October.  The tours are free with advance registration. Tours are scheduled for the first Saturday and third Tuesday of each month.   Saturday tours are from 10 AM to 11:30 AM, and Tuesday tours are from 2 PM to 3: 30 PM.  Tours depart from Rainbow Harbor near Parker's Lighthouse at Shoreline Village.   To make reservations, click on the above link or call (562) 590-4121.

San Juan Capistrano is called "the jewel of the California missions, and is located about 40 miles south of Long Beach.  It is the birthplace of Orange County, and was founded more than two hundred years ago as the 7th of 21 missions statewide.  It has a chapel still standing where Fr. Serra once celebrated Mass.  Trips to the Mission  are available on Long Beach Transit System's - Museum Express.
