Long Beach Transit offers a special program during the summer months called
Museum Express. It will take you to the Los Angeles Zoo and the
Orange County Zoo and many other locales on an air conditioned bus.
The cost is only $6.00 for a round

Our own city of Long Beach’s Department of Parks,
Recreation and Marine operates 92 parks with 25 community centers, two
major tennis centers, one of the busiest municipal golf systems in the
country with five courses, the largest municipally operated marina
system in the nation with 3,800 boat slips and 11 miles of beaches.
Cultural, sports and educational programs are provided for citizens of

Long Beach Sea Festival
Our ocean-oriented lifestyle is celebrated from
June 25 through August 26. It features sailing excitement
including the Jr. Olympic Festival; the Mayor’s Cup Race with all women
crews; and the dramatic Dragon Boat Festival. Landlubbers can
participate in the Great Sand Sculpture event, 4th of July Fireworks
Festival, Summer Concerts In The Park and Moonlight Movies. For

site jointly operated by the Los Angeles Arboretum Foundation and
the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation.
It is home to plants from throughout the world,
and houses the "Lucky Baldwin" mansion, site of many motion picture

150 acres of gardens, woods and landscaping, and in their
midst the historic mansion of Manchester Broddy, one-time owner of
the Los Angeles Daily News. The site is a "dream come
true" for gardening enthusiasts. Trips to

is located about 22 miles off the coast of Long Beach, and is a
favorite resort destination. Boats depart from Long Beach each
day at regular intervals and take tourists for brief one day
excursions or for multi-day vacations. This beautiful
island offers opportunities for relaxation, hiking, water

trip to Balboa Park is, at a minimum, an all-day outing from
our city of Long Beach (about 112 miles south). It is home to the
San Diego Zoo, museums, theatre, art galleries, etc. For more

Over 1,200 animals from all parts of the world ,
representing 350 distinct species, live in this 113 acre site in
Griffith Park.
Red
Ape Rain Forest, is a state-of-the-art facility that is home to the
zoo's unique orangutan population. In addition, kids can interact with
the friendlier furry residents – including a Vietnamese pot-bellied
pig – at the Winnick Family Children's Zoo. For

The
Park. operated by the San Diego Zoo, is an 1800-acre wildlife
preserve that allows visitors to view herds of exotic animals as
they might be seen in their native lands. The
Park houses a fabulous array of wild and endangered animals
including species from the continents of Africa, Asia, Europe, North
and South America, and Australia. It is located in a semi-arid
environment, based around Nairobi village in Kenya, and one of its
most notable features is the Journey into Africa tram which explores
the expansive African exhibits. These free-range enclosures house
such animals as cheetahs, antelopes, lions, giraffes, okapis,
elephants, zebras, Przewalski's horses, rhinos, and bonobos

The zoo features over 30 species and 100 animals.
It specializes in species which are native to Southern
California. Tours emphasize
the natural history of animals and plants which are part of the
exhibits. The “Barnyard” area is of special interest to smaller

of the largest aquariums in the United States with over 12,500 marine

galleries feature sea life in the three major regions of the Pacific.
