THE YARN BARN "CHICKS"

The "Yarn Barn Chicks" are a group of caring and
generous women who wish to build community among themselves and their
church. At the same time, they want to donate their talents and skills
to helping the sick, homeless, needy and poor.
Members of the Yarn Barn
meet each Thursday morning from 10:00 AM to Noon in the Conference Room of
the Religious Education Building. They bring their crochet
and knitting needles, yarn and items on which they have been working at home
- afghans, knit hats, clothing for newborns, etc. During the
meeting the ladies work on their crafts, help each other improve their
skills, laugh, tell stories, enjoy coffee, tea and treats, and share
with each other about God's work in their lives.
Once a craft item is completed, it is donated to people in need. Some
items are given to cancer patients in local hospitals and care
facilities. Others are donated to Merchant Marine charities in the Los
Angeles- Long Beach harbor area. Still other items are given to people
in
convalescent homes, or to the homeless and underprivileged.
Once each month, members of the Yarn Barn conclude their meeting by
enjoying a lunch together at a local restaurant, where the work of
"community building" continues.
