USHERS

Does
it seem a small thing to you that the God of Israel has chosen you from
among all the people of Israel to be near him as you serve in the Lord's
Tabernacle and to stand before the people to minister to them? (Numbers 16:9)
One
of the very earliest ministries in the Catholic Church, Ushers are aware
of the ongoing needs of the entire assembly during Mass, helping
participants to find their way, feel welcome, and be cared for.
Before
Mass, Ushers assist people in locating seats. During Mass, they assist
in taking up the collection and in the Presentation of the Gifts. Ushers
are also trained to respond to various emergencies, such as helping to
corral escaping toddlers, assisting worshipers who become ill, providing
additional seating, and making sure that everyone receives a parish
bulletin on the way out of church. Ushers perform their ministry with
care and diplomacy, endeavoring to keep order while enabling everyone to
feel at home.
