Do not cast me off in the time of old age; Do not forsake me when my strength fails.  (Psalm 71:9)

The Psalms are prayers of the heart to God, and Psalm 71 reflects what elderly and disabled people have prayed throughout history – and still pray today. The Convalescent Home Ministry is a way in which our parish family responds to their prayer in the name of Jesus.

The parish’s Convalescent Home Ministry began in 1988, as a means for reaching out to elderly and disabled people who live in convalescent homes in the local community.

Convalescent home residents often have few visitors from the “outside world”.  Many feel lonely, isolated and forgotten.   The purpose of the Convalescent Home Ministry is to let residents know that they are respected and loved, and to give them the support of the parish family.

Visits to convalescent homes take place on the second and fourth Sunday of each month.   Children and parents from the parish school act as sponsors, with different grades taking turns each month.

Children, parents and other parishioners joining in the trip  bring flowers and cookies to share with the elderly and disabled.  They meet in the church parking lot at 1:45 PM, then proceed to one of several convalescent homes in the local community.   The group returns to the church around 4:00 PM.

Once at the convalescent home, people of the parish sponsor  a party for residents.  They go from person to person to chat, sing, laugh and share love.   A clown entertains.   Parishioners give cookies and flowers to the residents.  When elderly and disabled are unable to join in the main party, children and adults walk  to residents’ beds to give their greetings and best wishes.  The afternoon is a time of joy, friendship and love.

Convalescent home visits are from 1:45 pm through 4:00 pm..   Anyone who wishes to participate should meet the ministry group in the church parking lot at 1:45 pm on the date(s) listed below.
