CEMETERY VISITATION
MINISTRY

In the early 1990’s, Monsignor
Bill O’Keeffe approached the Senior Citizen group in the parish.
He suggested that it would be a very fine gesture and ministry
for members to visit All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach on a regular basis
– to pray for priests and parishioners buried there, and to place
flowers on the graves.
Over the past decade, the ministry of prayer for
our deceased parish family has grown.
Today about fifty volunteers participate on a rotating basis.
Each week a group of volunteers travels to All Souls Cemetery.
They bring flowers from their gardens, or purchase bouquets at
local stores. They first
visit the graves of priests who served at Our Lady of Refuge – Monsignor
Hugh Vandenbergh, Monsignor
Dominic Daly and Father
Ernie Montoya – where they pray at the grave and leave bouquets of
flowers. Next they visit
the graves of other parishioners – spouses, relatives, friends and
other loved ones buried at All Souls.
