YOUTH ENSEMBLE AND
YOUTH HANDBELL CHOIR

Make a
joyful noise to the Lord, all the lands! Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into His presence with singing!
(Psalm 100:1-2)
Learning to sing, play an instrument and
make music is a voyage of discovery,
one which everyone should have the chance to take. It is a voyage by
which adults and children
express prayer, emotion and open their inner selves to God and others.
When children come together in a fri
endly and relaxed atmosphere to sing, they
not only find pleasure in music. They discover in themselves talents they never
knew they had. They grow in
self-confidence, learn to reach out to a wider world and come to
understand the joy of praising God in new ways.
The Youth Ensemble at Our Lady of Refuge consists of boys and girls in grades 2 through 8,
and the Handbell Choir of young people grades 4 through 8. Their
members come from public schools and the parish school, and
are youth who enjoy making music by singing or playing a musical
instrument. Members of the Ensemble rehearse in the Parish Hall on
Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 - 4:30 pm. Members of the
Handbell Choir rehearse in the Church each Wednesday afternoon from 3:30 PM to
5:30 PM . They sing and
play for Masses, and for special festivities such as
Thanksgiving Day Mass, First
Communion Masses, Christmas caroling, etc.
All children in the appropriate grades are
eligible to join the Youth Ensemble and Handbell Choir.
The most important requirement for membership is a desire to
participate in the group, a
love for music and determination to improve their skills.
