I am enjoying a relaxing week away from the parish, though today is smoky due to three fires locally. Let us pray for those who lost homes. I had some great hikes and walks along the beaches and gave thanks to God for the wonders of creation. I hear you are having high temperatures in Long Beach; here the average is 74 degrees, perfect by the ocean.
Thanks to all who attended Masses last weekend and all those others who watched Mass on the parish website. Once again our volunteers and ministers are outstanding; you are all most appreciated.
This coming Saturday we are having our first outside Baptisms, another historic moment in the life of OLR. On Monday we plan to start painting the rectory offices, another milestone; thanks to those who contributed to the painting fund.
I took a picture of the Carmel Mission but could not visit because it’s presently closed. Also witnessed the Lone Cypress on the 17-mile drive. Enjoy!

Mass Intentions: Requests may be made for weekend and daily Masses. Please contact the church office directly. You may request Masses by mail and enclose a stipend; you may call with your request and then make your stipend through Faith Direct as a one-time donation with the notation that it is for a Mass intention.
School of Religious Education: It's not too late to sign up for Jr High Religious Education (6th-8th grades) and our two-year Confirmation process. We meet 2x per month on Tuesdays at 7 P.M. Register online at www.ourladyofrefuge.org and select Religious Education and follow the prompts.
First Communions are scheduled outdoors in the Our Lady of Refuge Chapel at three Saturday morning Masses. Registration required for First Communicants and their families. Call the office to reserve your time. 562 597-3102
OLR Gardening Angels: Saturday, August 29 (9 A.M. to noon) for parish gardens trimming and clean up. Bring gloves, hats, clippers, if you have them, and masks. Many hands make light work. We will practice distance trimming. Call Steve Lang to confirm (714-600-0817 cell)
